    Kind of similar to the business card idea…

    Get a t-shirt and use your domain as the logo. For more reach… give as many as you can away at community events.

    Hey Justin… thanks for this post!

    You really made me dig for that…

    Some good, but basic stuff here. The thing is, as one builds more and more websites, one needs more and more automation to do these things as too time consuming to do manually. What we need is for experienced marketeers like you to ferret out the best and most affordable software to automate these important steps

    This is an outstanding list of traffic generating methods that actually work! I use many, if not most, of them.

    What I might add to this great list is the explanation to people new to traffic generation that they should not try to do it all at once – or they might get overwhelmed. Learning how to do each strategy and then doing them, one at a time, will be very beneficial to anyone learning internet marketing – and is tired of being overwhelmed.

    Great post and greater list!

    Great tips – I’m going to print this page and try out ALL of them. I especially like tip no. 50 though I’ll need to find a shorter domain name as I have small feet!

    You’ve covered all the basis with traffic so here are a few left-field pitches:

    put your website on kids kites and fly them on a windy day

    Put it on a flag and fly an airplane with your website tailing behind.

    Or advertise your website on the forehead (without bangs) of some willing students!

    Bake some brownies and give them away free with your card and your website on it

    Write a thank you card to your clients telling them how great they are and letting them know of new developments on the website for them and their friends

    Tell your mom to tell her friends! ‘Nough said.

    Hire some tecchies on elance.com to drive traffic to your site

    This was fun! I hope I win, Justin, as I really could do with the $100.

    Regards from Rome!

    Short and to the point, thats the way it should be. Each bullet answers the question with out going into unnecessary details. Important tips especially for the newbie.

    Join a yahoo Free-cycle group and save the email addresses that show up in your box. Let them know about your web site after you collected many names, which will all be local names. This is good for a local business web sites. Don’t let Yahoo groups know what your up to though.

  • Timothy W. Crane // Sep 27, 2010 at 12:37 pm

    I think that your list is very comprehensive. It covers most of the basic areas that I like to hit on. I separate the web into ten categories, and if you focus as such, I think it also leads to blanket traffic opportunity coverage.

    1- Search engines
    2- Product creation
    3- Offline communication
    4- Affiliates and viral programs
    5- social media
    6-Web Design (local site)
    7-Social Media
    8-Article Marketing
    9-Desktop placement (such as toolbars)
    10-Peer to Peer

    If you incorporate focus on just one plan of attack for each of these sections for every web campaign you do, YOU WILL get traffic. This list of 50 tactics is a perfect example.

    great article.thanks

  • Doug Barger // Sep 27, 2010 at 12:58 pm

    Nice list Justin.

    As usual, you’ve inspired me.

    So here’s what I’m going to do.

    Here’s an easily duplicatable 7 step system you can use to get more traffic quickly and simply:

    With YouTube being the world’s 2nd largest search engine just behind Google,

    *1. You can take your existing content
    (like even this blog post!!!)

    -and make each sub-head a
    point on a powerpoint slide

    using the ‘free-to-use’ Impress presentation
    tool from Open Office.org

    *2. Read each slide with your own
    comments and record using camtasia.

    *3. Next, do some keyword research
    using wordtracker or your favorite
    keyword research tool.

    (I like keyword elite 2.0)

    *4. You can now optimize your
    newly made video
    for your keywords
    and upload to YouTube!

    *5. Next, find the
    most highly viewed videos

    (which are already ranking well
    in YouTube) for *your video’s
    niche topic*

    and then

    *6. Upload your own video
    as a “response” to that video

    –to siphon off views!

    *7. Finally, make sure you have a nice
    link to your “money site” in your
    description so…

    …You can cash in
    off all your new views to your videos
    and visits to your sites! :-)

    Made 500 business cards and handed them out a a local Farmers Market all summer. Hooked up with old friends and asked them to help me promote. Great way to advertise my strictly online business ….actually may get a few customers too! Too often we overlook where we live and spend our internet income. I live in a small town in Idaho and have partners is South AFrica. They are having magnetic signs made to put on there autos…DO NOT OVERLOOK WHERE YOU LIVE!

    traffic = money, a statement which still must be considered for an online business who wants to wrestle either through blogs or web each, and you still constantly reminded the reader of all:)

    Talking about how to attract traffic to our respective blogs, especially the 50 ways that you describe with quite straightforward and explicit:), but may if I try to respond to points that are still jammed my mind …^_^

    “Make a custom 404 error page for your website Redirecting people to your home page.”

    I am a still newbie who needs to know much about the custom 404 error page, I hope you can make a special post about the custom 404 error page, which if can add more knowledge to attract visitors who doubled to our blog, no traffic = no money is it right? hehe ..

    Optimize EACH page of your website for a particular keyword or search phrase.

    Point of this is the way I like the most from step to attract traffic from you, Mr. Justin, ^ _ ^. SEO techniques blog where we had changed to become a SEO friendly blogs with the keywords that we aim at, when visitors type in a word, or phrase that people search in search engines, may not only our blogs that contain the keywords that visitors typed in search engines, tens, hundreds or even thousands of blogs our competitors, hufh .. need to work hard and smart to be performed within the first page on search engines. ARTS in our BLOG PAGE OPTIMIZE made SEO friendly as possible. ^ _ ^,
    18. Give away a freebie (ebook, report, e-course) to keep people coming back to your site.

    Art in attract visitors who constituted with human nature – GIVE – Opera-let alone provide a useful, profitable with a FREE system. Who are those who do not want to be something he was looking with a free gift. Coupled with offers of gifts, everyone will surely remember the name of the person who gives, and indirect beneficiaries would voluntarily promote our blog.

    Making the old visitors become regular visitors to our blog, and make new visitors become comfortable with the give away a freebie (ebook, report, e-course)

    I have recently discovered an effective and out of the box way to get a dofollow back link and improve the traffic via hiring…an artist. Here is the artist I am talking about http://igor-lukyanov.blogspot.com/p/why-hire-me.html . Now, I will explain how I would use the artist and why it can drive traffic to your site:
    1) You commission the artist to make let’s say a t-shirt design for your company with your logo, slogan, website etc.;
    2) The guy has a good habit to write blog posts about his commissions with dofollow back links to client’s sites from within the blog post content sometimes with keywords in the anchor text (follow the link I gave you to see the examples);
    3) Now the most interesting part is the metrics:
    - The blog is currently has PR3 but is very much likely to grow steadily in the future;
    - The blog is visited by 80 – 120 people daily, meaning more that 2000 people monthly for the time being;
    - The guy shows the resulting artwork image (with your logo and URL) which is highly searchable via SEs image searching tools;
    - The guy makes videos and uploads them on Youtube with indication of clients’ websites in the video credits ant sometimes in the video description (with the link to clients’ websites) examples are here http://www.youtube.com/user/igor4art (his channel has currently 135 subscribers but videos are viewed by several hundreds people monthly via search as well);
    - The artist has a fan page on Facebook with currently more than 700 fans. He also has more than 500 friends. He publish his works and links to new blog posts to be viewed by more than 1000 people on Facebook (see the link to his FB fan page on the blog);
    - He also publish his works and links to blog posts on DevianArt (website with several millions users community from around the globe), LinkedIn, Flikr, Twitter;
    - And a last he creates a French version of his blog for people from Europe, Africa and Canada.

    I never thought about this kind of traffic luring method but I am glad I have found it. And hope it worth $100

  • Nelson Tan // Sep 28, 2010 at 3:20 am

    This is a great summary of traffic generation methods, thanks Justin! But the last one sounds very desperate :)

  • Berry // Sep 28, 2010 at 3:57 am

    Thanks Justin

    Couple of thoughts:

    1. run a webinar and give out some great content – great for building up followers
    2. interview some well known people in your field – then give them a copy to promote to their lists

  • Mary Anne // Sep 28, 2010 at 6:50 am

    This is fantastic? Covers a lot and very educational for most of them.
    You could als think of a help column or corner. People alaways have lots of problems or issues gnawing at them, these include love issues, entrepreneurial advice, business, investment. A column on these and others will bring many people to the site. Everyone is looking for answers to make life easier and to improve on themselves and the world in which they live. Anything that brings about the best in somebody/something will be very popular. Thanks – Mary Anne

    Your post is very realistic. I have not been doing so well with traffic promotion an dit is killing my business.
    I think one of the most lazy ways is to use traffic generation softwares.

    What do you think?

  • Glassman96 // Sep 28, 2010 at 10:48 am

    You can make a power point and upload it to sites like,docstoc.com and others.

    Thanks for the tips.

  • Dafitko // Sep 28, 2010 at 7:26 pm

    Hai Justin, I know that you hv known what you are talking about. What you did is the answers what you want. And i just want to say again to you. And this way you known already. Nothing else to get a million traffic to you. only this thing we have to done.

    1. Create something useful for the peoples
    2. Focus only the good thing for your visitor not for you.
    3. Everything has price to do, there is nothing free ( this rule applicable only for you, not for your visitor ).
    4. Adwords!!!!!!!!!! to answers item no.3
    5. Doing siimilar at others system item no.04
    6.Dont give your visitor only $100 but $10.000
    07.Nothing else i can say….. “Think it”

    You are briliant guys..

    I bought a website from CoMergent a few months ago and they have been awesome! Very good support after the sale, they manage our marketing and SEO and our site gets tons of great traffic and converts visitors to sales consistently. CoMergent Acquisition Group is pretty expensive but they are worth it. I was recommended by a friend who used them a nd it’s the best thing I have ever done. I worked with Robert Thomas there and Yuris and they were absolutely great to work with.
